Bandstand Receives Facelift
Renovation work on Eastbournes 1930s seafront bandstand commenced this week to ensure the building receives essential maintenance prior to an action packed summer of firework concerts, tribute acts, proms and rock n roll nights.

Scaffolding has been erected around the 70-year-old edifice to start work on the cleaning and re-grouting of the roof to prevent the ingress and water and help preserve the structure.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor David Elkin said, The summer of 2005 was an outstanding success for the magnificent seafront bandstand in addition to the celebration of its 70th Birthday and this year is set to bring a range of more fresh ideas. I am sure the Eastbourne residents will be delighted to know that a whole host of maintenance work will be taking place on the venue over the next few weeks to get it up to scratch and ready for the busy and exciting months ahead.

Other work that has been scheduled before the busy concert season commences includes the repair and re-wiring of the fascia lighting under the roof, painting of the lower colonnade, improvements to the band dressing room and the upgrading of the emergency exits.

Throughout the summer, routine and emergency maintenance will also take place around the concert programme.

Following the traditional Easter concert from 15:00 -16:30 with the Eastbourne Silver band on Easter Sunday, the bandstand concert season will kick off in May with more than 100 concerts lined up over five months.
