Town FC Overcome Strong Hassocks
Town FC 1 Hassocks 0
After beating hassocks a couple of weeks ago 3-1 in the fa vase , Town knew this league game was going to be a tight affair. Suprisingly nearly 170 people turned out in the inclement weather to watch the two teams go head to head .
However Hassocks had come to play some good football, and during the first half , they had Town at times chasing shadows with there good movement off the ball .
However Town did have attacks on the Hassocks goal , but the efforts were from a long range , John piercy was unlucky with a long range effort that just curled away at the last moment .
Hassocks kept the ball well , making the Town players work hard to retrieve the ball , and they almost scored when Mark sherriff forced Mark Oldroyd into a smart save .
0-0 at half time then , with both defences on top , it looked odds on for a draw , but 3 minutes after the restart , Towns top scorer Liam Baitup broke the deadlock .
Shaun Loft won the ball on the edge of the Hassocks penalty area , the ball broke to Baitup , and he slid the ball into the back of the net .
That was the spark the Town players and Supporters needed , and from then on Hassocks rarely troubled the Town defence .Further chances of note fell to Greg Manton , who somehow managed to miss a header after reacting first to a Chris Dicker free kick , and towards the end , Shaun Loft looked to open his account for Town , but was denied by a superb save by Joel Harding in the Hassocks goal .
Another hard won 3 points for Town , who move up to fourth with this win
