Busiest Day in Box Office History
Thursday 26 February was officially the busiest day in Eastbourne Theatres box office history as tickets for the AEGON International, a combined mens and womens tennis tournament at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne, 13-20 June 2009 went on sale.
Well over 100,000 was taken through the box office on the first day of sales with queues starting at 7am that morning as tickets went on sale to previous customers. Box Office lines and counter staff were busy handling calls for tickets all day, from 10am to 8pm as eager spectators looked to guarantee their place at the brand new tennis tournament.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said The first day of sales was a huge success and the box office team managed to process an unprecedented number of phone calls and over the counter bookings. The tournament is certainly set to be a huge highlight in Eastbournes summer attracting spectators from across the world, all very keen to enjoy the brand new international grass court event at Devonshire Park.

Eastbournes box office systems were upgraded earlier this year and the number of phone lines was increased to help cope with the incredible demand for tickets. With tickets going on general sale on Thursday, the box office is looking forward to a busy month.

The AEGON International will be one of Britains biggest tennis tournaments combining the International Womens Open held at Devonshire Park since 1975 and the mens event recently held in Nottingham.

The tournament being played from 13-20 June will see male players playing alongside women in the first ever combined pre-Wimbledon event.

Leading life assurance and pensions company AEGON are the Lead Partner of British Tennis, sponsoring the Eastbourne event and spectators can look forward to an action-packed week in June.
