Picnic Perfect for Eastbourne Seafront
Eastbourne Seafront is the only place in East Sussex to be nominated for Britain’s Best Picnic Site for the second year running as Warburton’s family bakers search for the nation’s favourite place to lunch alfresco.
Warburton’s have launched a nationwide search for Britain’s Best Picnic Site in the run up to National Break Week from 4-10 May and Eastbourne Seafront has again been nominated in the south east category. Competing against nine other locations in the region, Eastbourne is the only town in East Sussex to be picked and the town is hoping that its charm described by Warburton’s as a ‘genteel seaside resort’, together with its thriving events calendar offering something for everyone who chooses to picnic there, will see it through to the national final.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said “It is fantastic news for Eastbourne that we’ve been nominated again for the country’s best picnic site. With a wide range of stunning locations, from our beautiful Victorian seafront through to the open landscape of Beachy Head and the South Downs, our well kept parks and gardens, and the contemporary Sovereign Harbour Marina; visitors can easily take their pick of perfect spots for a picnic in Eastbourne. I hope as many people as possible get behind this campaign and vote Eastbourne Seafront number one picnic site in Britain!”
Last week Warburton’s were in Eastbourne themselves, accompanied by a Blue Peter presenter, to take photographs of Eastbourne seafront as votes open online for people to get clicking for the country’s top picnic spot.
Eastbourne’s only seaside rival in the south east category is Boscombe beach in Bournemouth and with competition already fierce between the two resorts as they compete for the title of World’s biggest free seafront airshow, Eastbourne is determined to triumph.
With Eastbourne seafront host to many major events each year including Airbourne airshow, as well as Magnificent Motors, Eastbourne Extreme, Lambretta South Downs Run, and the regular Bandstand concerts during the summer; visitors opting for a picnic on the seafront will certainly be entertained.
Boasting more sunshine than any of its rivals too, Eastbourne is officially the sunniest place in the country and boasts an average 34.6 hours of sunshine a week; making it the perfect location for a picnic.
