International Professional Tennis returns to Eastbourne
Womens international professional tennis returns to Devonshire Park, Eastbourne from Saturday 28 May to Friday 3 June 2016.
The Aegon Eastbourne Trophy is an ITF Pro Circuit Womens $50k event with a great blend of British and overseas players on the entry list. All the worlds top players sharpened their pro careers at this level and a number of the players in action at Eastbourne are steadily working their way up the rankings in their quest to reach the top.

The entry list is headed up by world ranked 73, Slovakian number 5, Magdalena Rybarikova who, in 2009, won the pre-Wimbledon WTA Tour Event at Birmingham. Magdalena will be challenged by a contingent of strong grass court players, including Tamira Paszek from Austria who is no stranger to the College Road site having won the Aegon International Event in 2012 and last years Finalist, Russian Alla Kudryavtseva. The 28 year old Muscovite is currently ranked 184 in the world.

The British challenge is headed up by British No. 5, Tara Moore. 23 year Moore, who qualified at last years Event and lost a close match to Kudryavtseva in the quarter-finals said; Im really looking forward to coming back to Eastbourne. I have good memories from last year, I qualified and reached the quarter-finals and so it was a good week for me. The courts are always in excellent condition and we get good support from members of the public and are made to feel welcome. Im hoping to do well again this year.

There is also a strong line-up of many up and coming British juniors including; 17 year old Katie Swan, who is currently ranked number 12 in the world as a junior and is closing in on the worlds top 500 at the pro level.

Julie Piper, Tournament Director, said; Im really looking forward to returning to Eastbourne. This weeks Event is the first of many grass court tournaments coming up over the next few weeks which kick starts the grass court season culminating in The Championships, Wimbledon. We have an exciting line-up of players who will all be hoping to get as much grass court match experience as they can. Entry for spectators is free of charge throughout the week and, with easy access to viewing, the whole week is a great way to see close up some of the worlds up and coming players.

The Qualifying Event is taking place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 May with the Main Draw taking place from Monday 30 May to Friday 3 June. Weather permitting, play starts no later than 11.00am on all days

Entry throughout the week is free to spectators and you can follow the action through live scoring on https://www.lta.org.uk/major-events/international-events/aegon-trophy-series/aegon-eastbourne-trophy1/
