Military Bands Will Play On In Eastbourne
Concerns about the future of military bands in Eastbourne were this week allayed with the release of details of summer concerts at the Bandstand and Redoubt.
Concerns about the future of military bands in Eastbourne were this week allayed with the release of details of summer concerts at the Bandstand and Redoubt.

Cabinet spokesman for Culture Cllr Mike Thompson said:

This is fantastic news. The Bandstand will yet again see a full programme of events that will run from early April right through to late September. This will include five weeks of military bands covering the height of the summer season. And dont forget the heart thumping 1812 nights at the Redoubt as well warm summer nights will echo to the work of our finest composers!

In addition to the thundering sounds of the military the Bandstand will also host civilian bands, rock n roll evenings, jazz sessions, prom nights, Gilbert and Sullivan, skate sessions and the special Airbourne Sunday.

The great news comes despite a reduction in the overall budget for the area. As part of the Councils plan to keep any future council tax increases to a minimum the Council has reviewed all the services it provides and where necessary made prudent savings.

Councillor Thompson added:

I promised at Cabinet that we would look into providing this particular service within the budget. There has been a lot of concern expressed about the future of military concerts at the Bandstand, so I am delighted that weve been able to ensure that residents and visitors will again enjoy their music in 2004.
