Reindeer Bring Special Delivery to Eastbourne Christmas Magic
Eastbourne Christmas Magic is welcoming some special visitors this Sunday 12 December, as real reindeer bring an important North Pole delivery into Eastbourne town centre.
Leaving from their home in the Scottish Cairngorms, residence of the only free-range herd of reindeer in the UK, the reindeer will bring Santa in his sleigh starting at 1pm on the seafront, along Terminus Road and into the precinct.

Organised by a partnership of Eastbourne Borough Council, hotels and the business community, the friendly reindeer will also stop in the precinct from 2pm to 3pm to meet the public alongside Santa.

The herd originally came to the UK from Scandinavia and are used to harsh arctic weather conditions, developing a thick, light coloured coat each Winter, along with a new pair of antlers each year. The herd hope to bring along some young reindeer calves too, who when they are older, will join the more experienced reindeer in pulling Santas sleigh.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor David Elkin said This is a great magical day out for all the family and really brings the spirit of Christmas to Eastbourne. A chance to combine your trip with some Christmas shopping, a pantomime performance, an overnight stay or enjoy a meal out with the family.

Visitors can follow the Reindeer Route along Wilmington Gardens, Grand Parade, Terminus Road and ending at Sussex Gardens in Terminus Road precinct.

Through to 23rd December, young shoppers can also take a stroll along the Dick Whittington Trail, as shops and businesses throughout the town centre decorate their window displays in a Dick Whittington theme. With special clues along the way, the streets could be paved with gold for the lucky winners with great prizes at the end.

Bill Plumridge, Eastbourne Arndale Centre Manager, said Eastbourne has a real buzz about it this Christmas and we are delighted that the programme of events includes Santas arrival on his sleigh pulled by real reindeer on Sunday. This along with the Bishop Bell School Choir in the Arndale Centre between 12.45-1.45 should generate a terrific atmosphere in which to continue Christmas shopping.

For even more prizes and pantomime fun, youngsters can also visit the website on www.eastbourne.gov.uk/christmasmagic and visit the kids pages for lots of fun learning, puzzles and prizes.

Dick Whittington runs at the Devonshire Park Theatre through to 9 January, to book tickets call 01323 412000.
