Eastbourne Town Win 23 Sept
23 Sept - Town win 3-1 against Hassocks in FA Vase
Town progressed into the next round of the FA vase with a good 3-1 win against fellow sussex county league side Hassocks at the Saffrons . Town now entertain Merstham of the combined counties league in the 1st round .

It was a bit of a dour first half with both sides canceling out each other, Hassocks packed their midfield making it hard for Towns players to really cause any panic in the away sides defence . However, one good chance fell to Liam Baitup , but Joel Harding in the Hassocks goal pulled off a terrific save to keep the game level . Hassocks tried testing the Town back four, but all to often the game was littered with petty fouls and there seemed no real cohesion in the play .

However, dour the first half may have been , the second half was a bit more lively .
Hassocks took the lead on 70 mins when Mark Sherriff found himself free on the edge of the Town area , and he lobbed the ball over the stranded Mark Oldroyd to give hassocks the lead . Town manager reacted immediately sending on Mark Goodwin and Gary Brockwell to play a more attacking role to get the goal back .

It was striker Liam Baitup who won the corner that lead to Towns equaliser , in the 89 min, the ball was played in , it struck a Town player who managed to divert the ball goalwards , that effort was cleared off the Hassock goaline , only for the ball to fall to Danny simmonds , and his sweetly struck volley found its way through a crowd of players and nestled into the back of the net . It was no more than Town deserved , and the game went into extra time .
Hassocks looked exhausted during extra time, but Town had a spring in their step , and on 92 mins they took the lead . Gary Brockwell crossed into the Hassocks area and Liam Baitup was on hand to tuck the ball home, 2-1 to Town . Hassocks then had to start to chase the game and the gaps started to appear in their back line, and on 114 mins Town extended their lead .A quick throw on saw Bobby Godfrey wriggle free, he crossed to the unmarked Liam Baitup and he slotted the ball home for his second of the game. The game was won by now, and Town and Hassocks played out the second half of extra time with no more real attempts on goal .

Town will be looking forward to getting back to league action on Wednesday night when they entertain Rye and Iden in the league KO 7.45 pm .
