20 January - Eastbourne Town 0 Curzon Ashton 3
Liam Baitup failed to convert a penalty as Eastbourne Town crashed out of the FA Vase
Liam Baitup failed to convert a penalty as Eastbourne Town crashed out of the FA Vase to formidable northern side Curzon Ashton at the Saffrons today.
Off the field, Town committee members and other volunteers performed wonders to get the pitch fit for play and they were rewarded with a bumper crowd of more than 400.
But on the field, it was a different story as Town failed to match their North West Counties League opponents who were well worth their 3-0 win.
Curzon top scorers Michael Norton and Steve Moore were a constant menace to the home defence throughout and it was Norton who headed his side into an 11th minute lead following a corner on the left.
Moore doubled the lead in the 38th minute, but the half-time advantage might have been halved had Andy Ducille taken a good chance from eight yards on the stroke of the break.
Town desperately needed an early second half goal to get back into the game, but on a day when their defence looked uncharacteristically shaky, Norton made it 3-0 in the 50th minute.
Town's one chance of making a game of it disappeared when Baitup saw his penalty superbly saved by keeper David Fish after Luke Denton had been bundled over in the area.
