Eastbourne in Running for Group Travel Award
Eastbourne could be in line for another Group Travel award following news that it has been nominated for Most Group-Friendly UK Destination 2004 by readers of leading industry magazine Group Travel Organiser.
Eastbourne could be in line for another Group Travel award following news that it has been nominated for Most Group-Friendly UK Destination 2004 by readers of leading industry magazine Group Travel Organiser.

The resort is one of seven finalists across the country, with Eastbourne being nominated alongside Bath, Blackpool, Chester, Liverpool, Weston-Super-Mare and York. The winner will be announced on Friday 4th June at the Group Travel Awards in London.

Eastbourne has won the award for two years in a row, and has received various UK group travel industry awards in recent years, managing to secure a final position in at least one award every year since 1998.

The award recognises assistance to tour operators and groups in providing excellent facilities for large groups, assistance in accommodation booking and up to date information and advice.

Eastbourne Tourism are hoping that their group tennis packages which have been developed for the Hastings Direct International Championships will give them the edge over other resorts.

Providing exclusive surroundings in the Devonshire Club, with private bar, lounge and patio, groups benefit from their own reserved dining area and Centre Court seats. A live TV link to Centre Court keeps guests up to date with play and guests are welcomed with tea and coffee in the morning and a selection of complimentary newspapers. Large groups seeking reserved seating only, also receive discounted Centre Court tickets.

Following their success last year, the team have decided to roll out similar packages this year for Airbourne, with several exclusive areas on the seafront, providing hospitality and reserved seating. Airbourne is also a popular event for groups and was featured recently on the front cover of the March issue of Group Travel Organiser.

Councillor Mike Thompson, Spokesperson for Culture said It would be wonderful if Eastbourne gets a hat-trick of awards. The good thing about this particular award is that it is the visiting public who vote for the Most Group-Friendly UK Destination, there can be no better judges of our status as Britains premier resort".

Peter Hawley, Chairman of Eastbourne Hotels Association said Being nominated again and giving us the chance of a hat-trick is a great tribute to the positive and friendly attitude of everybody working in the Tourism Industry. We enjoy a close working relationship with our colleagues at the Borough Council and investment in our Hotels and staff are continuing to benefit our visitors"
