Sunday evenings at Eastbourne Bandstand are going from strength to strength with the prestigious BBC Elstree Concert Band performing this Sunday 4th July.
Sunday evenings at Eastbourne Bandstand are going from strength to strength with the prestigious BBC Elstree Concert Band performing this Sunday 4th July.

The 44 piece orchestra is playing as part of Eastbournes regular Sunday Night on the Proms season, performing favourites such as Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory.

The popular Sunday evening fixture returns, following its successful first season in 2003, which saw all 1,200 seats at Eastbourne Bandstand sell out on some evenings.

The BBC Elstree Concert Band which normally plays concert halls as opposed to bandstands, has chosen Eastbourne as the venue for the last night of their current performance season which ends this Sunday, before starting again in the Autumn.

The orchestra is led by Musical Director Mike Crisp who has composed and produced a variety of music for television. Mike said The BBC Elstree Concert Band very seldom give bandstand performances, however Eastbourne Bandstand is so superior to the usual standard, that we were delighted to end our season with a trip to Eastbourne. We hope to enjoy ourselves and make it a great day for the audience.

A bar will be available and doors open at 7pm with music from 8pm, tickets are sold on the door and prices start at 2.75. The orchestra will also be providing a morning performance of music for all the family at 11am, including Disney favourites such as the Lion King and Aladdin.

As well military bands, the 2004 concert season continues through to 5th September with Big Band Nights every Thursday, Rock n Roll every Saturday night, Jazz every Sunday afternoon and Gilbert & Sullivan on most Monday evenings.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor David Elkin said Its wonderful to welcome such a respected orchestra to Eastbourne, and we are privileged to be chosen as a venue on the BBC Elstree Concert Band tour. With such a varied programme of music now on offer at Eastbourne throughout the summer, we hope more people can enjoy one of the best seafront bandstands in the country.
