Friends Of Countryside Centre Allowed to Keep On Going
The Friends of The Beachy Head Countryside Centre have been given another year on which to build on the good work that they have put in place over the last 12 months.

This extension is subject to the submission of a full detailed Business Plan as well as criteria for future licensing during the next financial year. Consideration will be given to granting a three year extension following a satisfactory performance in the second year of operation.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Finance, Cllr Ian Lucas said, The Friends are to be congratulated for the successful year theyve had, and the Council is pleased to be able to support the Centre into the coming year.

Following the hard work of the Friends, the Countryside Centre is now open all year round and the group has secured external funding from the Campaign to Protect Rural England and fundraising amounting to 6,100 towards the upkeep of the Centre.

The Friends have run the Centre profitably since taking it over with more trained volunteers. An art gallery has been set up on the site along with a reading room.

Further new exhibits are being put in place, a 52 inch wide screen television has been installed to replace an old projection system and the group has worked with East Sussex County Council to set up school visits.

The Council awarded the Friends a grant of 2,500 as they embarked upon this project and this money has been released as the Friends have secured more funds.
